Women In Transition provides education and training to help communities recognize and respond to domestic violence/intimate partner violence and substance abuse.
WIT Trainings
We work with community groups, service providers, schools and workplaces, faith organizations, and more. Workshops for Community Members

Length: 60-90 minutes
Join us for an interactive exploration of the choices and challenges a survivor can face while trying to achieve safety. This program will pair activity with thoughtful discussion, while building understanding and empathy for survivors of domestic/intimate partner violence.
Best suited for audiences with limited knowledge about domestic violence. While all of our programs are trauma-informed, this workshop is NOT intended for DV/IPV survivors.

Length: 60-75 minutes
This training teaches participants boundary setting skills to say what you want and get what you need. We cover some of the fundamentals of boundary setting and common concerns that prevent us from creating the kinds of relationships we need to thrive. The second half of the training is interactive! Participants will get a chance to try out a few boundary setting techniques with practice scenarios drawn from real life.
No matter whether you're a beginner or a boundary setting expert, this workshop has something for you.

Length: 75 minutes
This interactive workshop builds on the tools taught in the Boundaries 101 workshop, with a focus on what to do when someone continues to cross our boundaries. What happens when our boundary setting doesn’t work and how do we handle someone who regularly crosses our boundaries?
This training is geared towards all audiences but can be especially impactful for survivors of DV/IPV.

This interactive workshop explores our perceptions around healthy and unhealthy relationships, discusses what a relationship looks like when it becomes abusive, and teaches skills to have healthy and positive interactions with people in our lives.
This training is geared towards adults ages 21 and up.

This interactive workshop explores our perceptions around healthy and unhealthy relationships, discusses what a relationship looks like when it becomes abusive, and teaches skills to have healthy and positive interactions with people in our lives.
This training is geared towards youth ages 12-21.

Length: 60-75 minutes
Bystander intervention can be a way to disrupt multiple levels of violence and harassment, which can help strengthen and build safer communities. This workshop covers the basic steps necessary to intervene in or support someone as an active bystander. After reviewing different tactics and techniques, participants will get a chance to apply what they've learned to a few situations, and leave with tools to help them confidently engage in problematic and/or harassing behavior.
This training can be geared toward all audiences, though the resources shared are Philadelphia specific.

How do you support someone experiencing abuse in their relationship?
This workshop covers the dynamics, definitions and warning signs of Domestic/Intimate Partner Violence (DV/IPV), how to support someone who is experiencing an abusive relationship, and local resources in Philadelphia that can help. Participants will leave with skills they can put into action immediately.
As with all of our workshops, we engage our audience in a culturally sensitive and nonjudgmental manner and welcome questions of all kinds.
This training can be geared toward all audiences, and can make a great lunch and learn session.

This workshop introduces the basics of intimate partner violence (DV 101) then focuses on the linkage between intimate partner violence and substance abuse.
We examine:
- The impact of substance abuse on the dynamics of intimate partner violence
- Dealing with the repercussions of a partner’s addiction in the context of an abusive relationship
- Safety planning around addiction issues
- Resources and approaches for recovery and intimate partner violence support for survivorsThis workshop can be geared toward all audiences, though it can be particularly relevant for patients or staff at substance abuse treatment facilities.

This training covers intimate partner violence and the development and impact of trauma.
Topics include:
- Definitions and dynamics of intimate partner violence
- Definition of trauma and its impact on the body and behavior
- Trauma-informed response
- Supporting survivors of IPV
- Safety planning, resources, and referrals
- Case scenariosThis training can be geared toward all audiences, though it can be particularly relevant for staff at social welfare agencies.

This training provides health care professionals with a greater understanding of the importance of routine, culturally-sensitive intimate partner violence screening.
Topics covered:
- Dynamics and definitions of intimate partner violence
- Warning signs of intimate partner violence
- RADAR and HITS Screening Tools
- Responding in a supportive and nonjudgmental manner
- Providing appropriate referralsThis training is appropriate for all health care professionals and students.

This training equips employees to better understand and support co-workers who are experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV).
Topics covered:
- Dynamics and definitions of intimate partner violence

- Responding in a supportive and nonjudgmental manner
- An overview of safety planning in the workplace
- Practice case studies
- Philadelphia resourcesThis training is appropriate for all workplace employees, though it may be particularly relevant for Human Resources and Management.
