Dear Friend,
Michelle came to WIT two years ago, uncertain about her future. She wasn’t ready to leave her abusive partner, so she and her counselor discussed her goals, resources, and a plan for her safety. Recently, Michelle came to her counseling session with new bruises. She had decided it was time to end the relationship. Michelle and her WIT counselor worked together to get her a Protection From Abuse order, which got her abuser evicted. WIT helped Michelle apply for Victims Compensation, to help recover the lost wages she incurred from her injuries. Before Michelle left her most recent counseling session, she said, “For almost two years you’ve been telling me that I can change my life. But today is the first day that I believed it.”
This is the difference that your donation makes. Your support changes lives.
This past year has been a year of growth for Women In Transition. Your support has helped us expand our programming to include therapy for clients in need of more intensive mental health services. We have made our services more accessible to non-English speakers by launching a bilingual English/Spanish counseling program. We started two new support groups: Safe & Sober, at the intersection of DV and substance abuse, and Financial Empowerment, to support survivors in reclaiming their financial independence. And, we initiated WAVE Healing Groups, empowerment self-defense classes for survivors of DV and sexual assault.
As we embark on a new decade, we are thinking about our past, our present, and our future. We just launched the WIT archives, a collection showcasing almost 50 years of supporting survivors. And we are looking ahead, creating a new strategic plan filled with ideas for growth, expansion, and new programs.
We are thinking about our future so our clients can think about theirs. That's why I'm reaching out to you for an end-of-year gift to WIT. Your donation ensures that WIT will be here for clients like Michelle well into the future. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Corinne Lagermasini,
Executive Director
