Women In Transition stands in solidarity with protesters across the country rebelling against inequality and police brutality.
The murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and countless others are caused by this country's long history of white supremacy and systemic racism. Women In Transition firmly stands behind Black Lives Matter protesters. As an organization centered on empowerment, we support protesters using their voices to affect change.
As a domestic violence agency, our relationship with the police is complex. Our clients sometimes rely on police to protect them, and sometimes police are perpetrators of violence. We condemn police brutality and support efforts to end injustice and promote safety, especially for communities of color.
Domestic violence (DV) and substance abuse are inextricably linked to systemic inequality, institutional racism, and white supremacy. Racism is a public health issue; therefore, working to end systemic racism is an imperative part of DV prevention work. As we provide trauma-informed services, we acknowledge intergenerational trauma, institutional trauma, and structural trauma.
At Women In Transition, we are committed to supporting safe families, safe homes, and safe communities. Many Survivors and communities in Philadelphia are experiencing pain and trauma right now. We encourage anyone who needs support to reach out to our LifeLine. We are here for you.
