Vocation Station: “It gave her the confidence to actually apply to positions"

Congratulations to program participants and facilitators on the successful completion of WIT’s 5th summer of Vocation Station!

Produced in collaboration with Temple University's Occupational Therapy Program, Vocation Station is a free, virtual 9-week vocational training program that covers topics such as resume building, searching and applying for jobs, interviewing skills, and professionalism in the workplace.

Workshop facilitators and Temple Occupational Therapy students Meekie Inman and Julianna Looney began each week’s session with an educational seminar around a specific topic (such as in-person and Zoom interviewing skills). Following these presentations, workshop participants could meet one-on-one with Meekie and Juliana for personalized attention tailored to their situation.

“We had a one-on-one session where we helped a participant build a resume so she could rejoin the workforce,” said Julianna. “We looked at her skills and strengths and put them into a resume. It was the most rewarding experience because gave her the confidence to actually apply for positions.”

In addition to traditional vocational training subjects, Meekie and Julianna incorporated into the curriculum sessions covering daily routines, time and stress management, conflict resolution and work-life balance – a range of topics to prepare program participants to show up as their best selves in different environments.

“We wanted people to feel prepared that first day at a new job, during an interview, managing the stress for projects – all the parts of navigating a robust schedule,” said Meekie.

Thank you to interns Meekie and Julianna and to Temple University's Occupational Therapy Program! We look forward to to more years of collaborating on Vocation Station.
